Segregation failure ends in amputation of driver's leg

A delivery company has been fined ￡120,000 with costs of ￡10,783 after an agency driver was hit by a reversing forklift truck. The fine amounts to 63.1% of the company's most recent pre-tax profits. The incident occurred on 2 September 2014 at the Slough depot of Delivered UK. The delivery driver was pushing a trolley containing parcels along the wall of the building, with a row of delivery vehicles on his other side. When he reached the end of the row, a forklift truck reversed out of a shutter door entrance to the building, striking the worker and trapping his left foot in the rear wheel. He was in hospital for five weeks with a crushed leg and, five months after the incident, doctors amputated his left leg below the knee.
