The NHS: from good great?

In December 2009, health secretary Andy Burnham produced NHS 2010 to 2015: from good to great: preventative, people-centred, productive.1 In his foreword, he states: '15 years ago, the NHS had sunk to such a low ebb that many voiced doubts over its long-term survival, with it now recognised as being in a strong position with high levels of public support.' However, he has set a new ambition as we leave behind the first decade of the 21st century, meaning a 'new drive toward a more preventative and people-centred service - better for patients, but also more productive'.
