Review of Ukrainian economy development in 2003

Results of 2003 confirm that hasty economic growth continues in Ukraine. GDP has augmented by 8.5 percent while accretion of industrial production constituted 15.8 percent, Meanwhile GDP increased by 7 percent and industrial output by 8 percent in average in the CIS countries. Due to unfavorable weather conditions, grain harvest was by 27 percent less than in 2002 on the whole territory of the former Soviet Union. Consequently volume of agricultural produce decreased by 0.5 percent. The same reasons caused curtailment of its output in Ukraine by 10.2 percent in all categories of economies. However high dynamics of local economy in general was stipulated by favorable conjuncture on external markets as well as significant growth of real population income and investments to fixed assets. Positive dynamics in industry that was the main engine of such development over the whole 2003 was mainly determined by growing output in machine building, metallurgy, and food industry. Almost three quarters of industrial output accretion were secured by these industries according to the results of 12 months.
