Ivano-Frankovsk region

Ivano-Frankovsk region occupies the territory of almost 14 ths. sq. km. Judging by the character of relief, it consists of three parts: Carpathian mountains, piedmont part of Predcarpatye, and Pridnestrovye (plain land). Carpathian mountains occupy almost half of the region and can be divided into massifs Gorgany, Chornogora, Chivchiny, and mountains Grinyavy. The highest peak of Ukraine Hoverla mountain (2,061 m) is situated here. Approximately 160 deposits of natural resources (oil, gas, brown coal, peat, rock and potassium salt, sulphur, and phosphorites), and more than 300 springs of mineral water (including waters of Naftusya type) have been prospected here. Soils of the region are peculiar, because practically all suitable agricultural types of soil can be found in the region. There are large areas of black earths favorable for development of agriculture in the south-east of Ivano-Frankovsk region.
