Rural health professionals face difficult decisions in the provision of evidence-based treatment for adolescent depression. Medication might be no more effective than placebo for adolescent depression and some antidepres-sants can increase the risks for suicidal behaviour. On the other hand, there are shortages of clinical psychologists in non-metropolitan regions to deliver evidence-based psychological therapies for depression such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT).Behavioural activation (BA) is a treatment for depression that is experiencing renewed interest both in Australia and internationally.
