China's 'Maritime Silk Road'

The initiative is in two parts: a Silk Road Economic Belt (Belt) linking the Far East and Europe via Central Asia and Russia on the landside, and a Maritime Silk Road (Road) along the sea routes between the two regions. In recent months countries along the route have been signing up to the idea in droves, at the last count at least 40 having expressed their support for what China is calling its 'one belt, one road' plan.
