'Shipping is not as well known to the public as other industries and hopefully I can bring the benefits and concerns of the maritime sector to the attention of politicians,' he tells Seatrade. 'Germany is a great maritime country, not only for shipowning but also for shipyards, maritime training, highly technical marine equipment. We have to keep and strengthen the industry in Germany. ... We have to keep training... there's been a fall-off in [the popularity of] maritime as a career and we have to analyze what went wrong and try to bring it back.'
