Killifish Culture for Marine Live Bait; Plus Air Incubation of Eggs

Baitfish production is relatively new to saltwater fishing, but over 60 years old in freshwater. Over 50% of U.S. freshwater baitfish is cultured, primarily in Arkansas, where the industry is worth approximately 23 million dollar annually. The impetusfor this industry came with the construction of flood control impoundments in the southern U.S., increasing demand for bait for the fisheries so created, together with a growing population, and a reduction in availability of wild baitfish. Similar conditions exist in coastal recreational fishing and offer opportunity for culturing saltwater baitfish.
