Producers see potential for new broodstock development technologies

It wasn't so long ago that fish farmers selected broodstock from amongst their production fish by "eye," and assumed or hoped that what the eye saw would translate into superior performance. Most cultured species weren't too many generations removed from their wild ancestors, and the industry was still assessing various wild stocks for possible domestication. It was kind of a package deal, and sorting the good from the bad or ugly was pretty subjective.
