Coaster owners dominate Mediterranean market due to shortage of open fleet

The pace of trade remains quite high in the Mediterranean Sea thanks to regular shipments of fertilizers, minerals, steels, constructioncargoes and grain. Charterers still suffer lack of open vessels both in WMed and EMed. Meanwhile, ship owners stay bullish.In WMed, owners are seeking to get mid €20s/t for shipment of 5,000 t of steels from Seville to the Marmara Sea, while charterersare ready to pay at best €22/t. An 8-9,000 t lot of clinker is offered for shipment from Casablanca to the Continent bss 1/1 at €17/t, whilea month ago, similar shipments were performed at mid €10s/t. 5,000 t of cement are carried from SpanMed to the ARA ports at high€20s/t. Shipment of up to 10,000 t of fertilizers from Safi to the Black Sea is estimated by brokers at low $20s/t.
