This book helps fill an important gap of our understanding of the contributions made by chemistry in the Allied victory in the Second World War. The story of rdx, the British-invented super-explosive, had never been told before, rdx was considerably more powerful than conventional tnt, but much more difficult and expensive to produce. Baxter traces the history of the explosive, showing that its eventual mass production was much the result of Allied technical and scientific cooperation, as were microwave radar and the atomic bomb.
