Batteries key to continued electrified-vehicle sales gains

Despite relatively stable prices at the pump in 2013, electrified vehicles sold better than ever. The Electric Drive Transportation Association reports that in the U.S., sales of basic hybrid vehicles climbed 14% in 2013 vs. 2012 to 495,530 units. Plug-in vehicles (battery-electric, extended-range electric, and plug-in hybrid) experienced an even higher up-tick: 83% to 96,702. Together, sales of hybrids and the more advanced electrified vehicles totaled 592,232.
