How the Public Sees Business Rules: Much of World Sees Need for More Regulation

In late 2011 surveys of 1,000 people in each of 25 countries, Edelman, a public relations firm, asked, "Does your government regulate business too much, not enough, or about the right amount?" The global total was 19% "Too Much," 22% "Right Amount," and 48% "Not Enough." In the U.S., 31% chose Too Much (a higher proportion than in any other country), 17% Right Amount, and 37% Not Enough. Unsurprisingly, Republicans were 55/15/19%, in contrast to Democrats at 16/19/52%.
