Sony Develops Sustainable Paper Material From Bamboo, Sugarcane and Recycled Paper

Sony Group Corp. (TYO:6758) has developed a sustainable paper material made from bamboo, sugarcane and post-consumer recycled paper of specified origin. The strong, highly durable material is recyclable and contains no plastic whatsoever. To facilitate the transportation process, the bamboo and sugarcane are pulped and dried before shipping to the manufacturing site, where they are blended with post-consumer recycled paper. The resulting paper material can be molded using a conventional wet pulp molding process. Sony plans initially to use the material to package its own products, but also intends to consider marketing it externally.
