The Canadian appliance industry remains upbeat, with strong industry growth in 2005 and continuing robust economic performance. The Canadian Appliance Manufacturers Association (CAMA) is forecasting growth of 3 percent for the five core home appliance products in 2006. New housing starts and completions remain the strong driver of this growth, and for the first time in 10 years, the number of housing completions is expected to exceed the number of starts. Shipments to the retail channel are expected to reach 3.8 million for the five core products and the builder channel to reach 0.6 million for a total of 4.4 million units.
