Covestro AG, the world’s largest manufacturer of polycarbonate (PC), achieved good results last year. Looking ahead, the German-based company has gotten under way on second-phase investment for PC compounds in Thailand, envisioning completion here by the end of 2023. This comes as the PC supply–demand balance tightened worldwide last year-a trend that in Southeast Asia has also continued through to the January–March quarter of 2022. Going forward, Covestro expects that PC demand will continue to rise at a rate of 6 percent per year in Southeast Asia. And so to respond to growing demand for use in the likes of electric vehicles (EVs) and 5G devices, the company has further production increases in its sights.
