摘要

beta-Lactams are considered standard of care for the treatment of gram-negative bacteremia in pediatric patients. Combination antibiotic therapy with beta-lactams and ami-noglycosides is liberally prescribed in spite of several studies in adults showing no difference in clinical outcomes between combination therapy and culture-directed monotherapy. As the most commonly co-administered medication is an aminoglycoside, the main concern about combination therapy is exposing the patient to added nephrotoxicity without additional clinical benefit.
