EU to clamp down on REACH through new chemicals strategy

A new chemicals strategy issued by the European Commission promises tougher regulations on substances covered by the EU Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation, including agrochemical intermediates and co-formulants. It is aiming for “zero tolerance” of non-compliant substance dossiers, increased data requirements, and an end to exports of substances that are banned in the EU. The objectives were first outlined in a roadmap in May and the new strategy forms part of the Commission’s “Green Deal” for tackling climate change.
