One of the things we know about successful people is that they are very careful about what they say to themselves. They know that their self-talk has a profound impact on how they think, how they behave, and ultimately on the results they achieve in their life. In contrast, less successful people operate on the false assumption that their self-talk - what they say to themselves when nobody else is around - is something that's outside their control. A bit like the weather, storms and clouds may come, but that does not mean we need to be unduly influenced by the prevailing wind. As one person put it: "How much better would our lives be if we could carry our own weather within us?" With this idea in mind then, it's important to think about how we might alter our self-talk so that we have the best possible chance of being successful.
