United Nations development programme (UNDP) perspectives on Asian Large Marine Ecosystems

This commentary provides the Asian perspective on the UNDP's global scenario for Large Marine Ecosystems. The UNDP is actively supporting assessment and management projects in 6 Asian LMEs the East China Sea, Yellow Sea, South China Sea, Gulf of Thailand, Sulu-Celebes Sea, and Indonesian Sea. This piece provides commentary on Asian LME project development and implementation since 1995 and the context for the organization's continuing work on LMEs in Asia. The continuing challenges and opportunities to improve and extend the LME approach are described in the concluding comments.
