Some years ago a Kiwi solicitor I know used a phrase that's resonated with me ever since. The phrase, 'stasis* is not an option' is a fundamental message for the entire SME sector. The pace of change is accelerating and failure to anticipate and/or adapt to it could be catastrophic. A walk around the older part of London illustrates this rather well. There is a district in the 'City' where there is a concentration of livery companies where the modern day expression remains little more than a fine dining hall and some administrative facilities. Many have wistful names, among them the Cordwainers', Scriveners', Cutlers', Haberdashers', Apothecaries', or Wheelwrights' Halls. These illustrious buildings are all that remain of once proud trades that no longer exist.
