EVEN IN THE BUSIEST and most populated of Western cities, a surprisingly high proportion of the surface is covered in vegetation (almost 50% in some cases). Furthermore, in the UK, almost half of the urban green areas are made up of private gardens.Hence, what we do in our gardens and green spaces and how we manage them can have a real impact on our environment, both positive and negative (Cameron etal. 2012).
