Standardisation is by no means a new con-cept to IT professionals.For companies considering the adoption of an enterprise LIMS strategy,a detailed study carried out by an independent professional consulting company shows that standardisation on one LIMS system has clear,quantifiable benefits that justify the difficulties and costs involved in the standardisation process itself.In terms of the financial criterion known as Total Cost of Ownership (TCO),companies participating in the study report-ed realising a 40% savings from imple-menting a standard LIMS,averaging 300,000 per lab on an annual basis.With quantifiable financial and operational bene-fits,the trend for companies operating mul-tiple laboratories to standardise on a global LIMS solution will only accelerate.
