Ion-exchange resins are well established and widely used for the separation of biological molecules.Silica and polymeric resins are the two main supports for such ion-exchangers.Due to its pH limitation (2-8.5) and significant nonspecific interactions caused by the negatively charged surface (-SiOH),silica is however less suitable than polymer resins as a support for ion-exchangers.
