Australian resources group Wesfarmers has reported hat coal sales earnings at its Curragh coking coal mine in he fiscal year ending in June rose by 27 percent compared to he previous year, but earnings from the Premier and Bengalla thermal mines slumped. Wesfarmers said FY 2003 earnings from its energy business before interest and tax (before goodwill amortization and proceeds from the sale of the Girrah coal deposit) stood at A 259.8 dollars million (US 171 dollars million), or 9.7 percent higher compared to FY 2002 due to strong growth in both gas and coal earnings.
