Rotterdam takes less coal in June

Coal imports into Rotterdam were on the quiet side in June. While stand-along figures for coal arrivals at EMO's terminal-by far the biggest of the two coal terminals at Rotterdam-for June were unavailable, the company said it had a quieter-than-usual month on the arrivals front. EMO handled 10 million mt in the first six months of the year, with 2.2 million mt handled in May and 1.2 million mt in April. The terminal currently has inventories of 2 million mt and while that number is slightly lower than usual, it expects to see a pick-up in the second half. No coal at all was delivered into European Bulk Services' (EBS) terminal in June, and inventories are abnormally low as well. EBS currently has stocks of about 5,000 mt, compared with roughly 200,000 mt this time last year. The future is a little brighter, however, as 200,000 mt is expected to be delivered into EBS in August and September, split equally between the two months.
