Circulation figures of British newspapers improving only slowly from April low

Circulation figures of British dailies and weekend newspapers recovered in May from the low point they had receded to in April because of coronavirus-related restrictions. As borne out by figures of British monitoring agency Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC), overall circulation figures improved month-on-month by close to 3 per cent in May but still stood roughly 20 per cent below the figures for May 2019. ABC's survey does not include figures from News UK which publishes two widely circulated newspapers TheSun and Times nor from Daily Telegraph. Figures for the individual titles are all negative except for the Saturday edition of Financial Times which even indicates some growth. Monday-to-Friday newspaper sales for May were still down by 22 per cent on an average compared with the previous year. For Saturday newspapers, the year-on-year decline stands at 14 per cent, for Sunday papers at 16 per cent.
