Housing woes, rising gas prices, tougher fuel economy regs, shaky consumer confidence, and a threatened economy—there are many clouds on the horizon going into 2008. Though Toyota is now the second-largest automaker in the United States, it's growing so fast that quality is threatened, analysts say. On the other hand, while the domestics still have big problems with profits and sales, this years revolution- record highs, automakers are developing more green vehicles—hybrids for the Japanese, diesel for the Europeans, and some hybrids and, later, fuel cell vehicles for the domestics.
