Green light for green checkups

Last month, at a press conference in Denver, NADA officially launched Green Checkup Month, our initiative to help consumers save gas and cut greenhouse gas emissions through proper vehicle maintenance. We made it clear to public officials and media representatives covering the event that dealers are part of the solution in our nation's efforts to combat climate change. Green checkups can not only help squeeze more miles out of each tank of gas consumers put into their vehicles, but also reduce their so-called carbon footprints. And we are asking NADA's 20,000-plus members to offer these inspections at their dealerships, free of charge. Sometimes, after announcing a big initiative at a press event, you wonder what will happen after the lights and cameras are turned off and the crowd leaves. Will the word get out? Will anyone respond to the call? Well, I got my answer within hours.
