摘要

H1N1 has hit the global pig industry hard. Pigs in at least three countries — Canada, Australia and Argentina — have been infected with the powerful new strain of H1N1 through human contact. Whether this is a harbinger of what's coming to more countries remained to be seen at press time. The good news, if there is any in all this, is that for the most part public officials and the media have been responsible of late in saying that there is no way humans can get the virus by eating pork. Yet despite such statements by such highly regarded health organisations, consumers in countries where pigs have contracted H1N1 have responded by reducing their consumption of pork.
