The changes in the soil S content, changes in yield of wheat and content of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in wheat grain as a result of sulfur fertilizer application were determined. The experiment was carried out on a calcareous chernozem soil in Zemun Polje near Belgrade, Serbia. Two forms of sulfur fertilizers were applied: elemental S (60, 120 and 600 kg/ha) and gypsum. Soil and plant samples were taken after harvest. The analyses showed an increase in total and available soil S. Higher amounts of the applied S reduced the yield of wheat grain, and decreased nitrogen and phosphorus content. On the other hand, the content of S and K in the grain was higher in the treatments where more intensive sulfur fertilization was applied.
