An equisetum bracelet makes a fabulous do-ahead foundation for personal flowers. What could possibly be new in the world of body flowers? A lot--as Cathy Hillen-Rulloda AIFD, AAF, PFCI proves in this month's prom feature. The wristlet created on page44 offers an innovative look that will wow prom goers. The technique is quite simple. Cathy began by cutting equisetum into about 20 short pieces, varying in length from two to three inches. Placing them flat on her worktable, she threaded them togetherusing two double lengths of elastic thread (available at craft and sewing stores) and a needle made from florist wire. To make the needle, she snipped the end of the wire on the diagonal to create a sharp point that would pierce the equisetum more easily, then bent it back on the other end to create the eye of the needle. After threading it she fed the needle through all the pieces of equisetum on one side and repeated the process on the other. Feeding it only once, through the center, would allow the equisetum sections to twirl around on the thread; the double rows give the bracelet a stable shape.
