International blood import/export: recommendations for blood services and software developers.

In March 2009, the International Blood Emergency Planning Action Group (IBEPAG) and ICCBBA performed a survey on blood import/export and labelling [1]. As a follow-up activity, sample blood group labels from fifteen blood services were distributed to ABO/EBA members to assess the ability of blood services to import blood from other countries, based on label compatibility. Sixteen blood services from fourteen countries participated in this survey.
