Tech nological innovation and market success are not limited to producers in the New World. In this installment of World Watch, we visit Spain, a region cited by leading wine industry commentators as combining the advantages of tradition and terroir with new technology that will blaze new trails and win new consumers in the competitive wine market of the 21st century. What first excited me about Spanish wines was their elegance combined with luscious, ripe fruit flavors. Over the last ten years, Spanish wines have demonstrated consistency in producing those flavors combined with control in the winery to allow them to shine through. This modern, clean style is quite a recent development for this traditional country.
