摘要

Periodontal disease causes destruction of connective tissue that retains teeth within the jaw. We report expression of periodontal ligament and bone marrow stem cell-associated surface markers CD34 and CD44. By RT-PCR we found that genes for expression of alkaline phosphatase, periostin, osteocalcin and S100A4 genes were higher in periodontal ligament stem cells. Both mesenchymal stem cells differentiated into osteoblasts and adipocytes. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy revealed extracellular collagen fibers generated by ligament stem cells. Findings suggest undifferentiated mesenchymal periodontal ligament stem cells regenerated dental structures in dogs.
