Different power rate policy for Al smelters continues to be implemented

NDRC has recently announced that China would continue to implement the policy of different power rate for primary aluminum industry and other 5 energy-intensive industries including steel, ferro-alloys, cement, calcium carbide and caustic soda in a bid to embody the policy of "encouraging the big and strong and restricting the small and weak" and maintain healthy development of the industries. NDRC said in a circular that relevant authorities are now studying and stipulating a new industrial policy; "Industrial Structure Adjustment Guideline". The power rate for the companies of the 6 energy-intensive industries will be changed according to the new police. The new police will be issued and effective in the near term. NDRC said that, according to the new policy, those large-sized enterprises with advanced technology and facility of primary aluminum, ferro-alloys and caustic soda industries are expected to enjoy preferential policy on power supply in the future. NDRC and other relevant authorities will select some enterprises as the pilot companies to obtain electric power directly from power station, or settle rational power rate according to the big user's power consumption, etc.
