South Korea buys Sakhalin coal

An international trader sold Russian coal to South Korean state-owned utility Korea Southern Power (Kospo) in a ten- der that was closed on 30 May. Kospo bought 320,000t of Sakhalin coal at $50/t on a fob NAR 4,700 kcal/kg basis with a sulphur content of 0.3pc. The first delivery is scheduled for August, according to a market source. The port of loading was not disclosed. The utility was seeking 960,000t of coal to be purchased in August 2019-November 2021. The coal should have a minimum calorific value of NAR 4,600 kcal/kg, maximum 43pc moisture, volatile matter in a 16-45pc range and maxi- mum 17pc ash. And sulphur should be no more than 0.4pc. The volume should be delivered by Panamax vessels, with 80,000t of coal each.
