According to The Economist Intelligence Unit, merchandise exports (free on board-fob) from Thailand totalled US$242.7bn in 2019, down from US$251.1bn in 2018. Merchandise imports (fob) amounted to US$216bn in 2019, down from US$228.7bn in 2018. Thailand posted a trade surplus of US$26.7bn in 2019, up from US$22.4bn in 2018. According to the Ministry of Commerce, Thailand's major exports in 2019 consisted of machinery, including computers; electrical machinery and equipment; vehicles; precious stones and jewellery; rubber and rubber products; plastics; and mineral fuels, including oil. Primary imports included electrical machinery and equipment; mineral fuels including oil; machinery, including computers; jewellery; iron and steel; and vehicles. The US was the top export market in 2019, followed by China, Japan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia and Indonesia. The main suppliers of imports were China, Japan, the US and Malaysia.
