Merchandise exports (free on board-fob) from Thailand totalled US$227bn in 2020, down from US$242.7bn in 2019. Merchandise imports (fob) amounted to US$186.1bn in 2020 to yield a trade surplus of US$40.9bn, compared with imports of US$216bn in 2019 and a surplus of US$26.7bn. The services balance swung to a deficit of US$15.1bn in 2020 from a surplus of US$24.3bn in 2019. According to the Ministry of Commerce, Thailand's major exports in 2020 consisted of cars, equipment and parts; computer equipment and parts; gems and jewellery; rubber products; plastic beads; and circuit boards. Primary imports included machinery and components; electrical machinery and parts; crude oil; chemicals; circuit boards; and iron and steel products. The US was the top export market in 2020, followed by China, Japan, Hong Kong and Vietnam. The main suppliers of imports were China, Japan, the US, Malaysia and Taiwan.
