GD Systems' 343 highways monitoring radar device is new to the market but already seems to be making waves, with its potential to support a real-time data analysis of key inter-city routes, especially smart motorways and roads subject to large changes in travel patterns like those close to an airport, an arena, or a stadium. It has been designed to be pole mounted at 6m high as close as 2m to the inside running lane. From this position it will provide detailed traffic data on up to 10 lanes, at an angle of 30 degrees, from the lane immediately beneath the radar to the furthest lane of the carriageway.
