There are multiple publications on the topic of periop-erative nursing. However, there is a paucity of texts at an introductory level. In this respect, this text meets a particular market niche. The authors of this particular publication are all perioperative specialists who are involved in nurse education and research and this is evident from the level of detail within the text.The publication is pitched at students and those new to the perioperative speciality, and no prior knowledge is expected. From this perspective, it is a very comprehensive text which provides the necessary detail to gain an introductory understanding of this area of nursing. The content breaks down the subject into well defined chapters for easy reference. The text covers all the major areas of periop-erative nursing at a level that will maintain the interest of those unfamiliar with this speciality. The concepts of perioperative nursing are well-explained and easy for the reader to understand. Each chapter is well referenced and provides links to relevant internet resources. The layout of the text is rather unimaginative, causing subchapters to blend into each other. Here the text may have benefited from a higher impact design with more use of colour and photography.
