75% OF SUN CARE PRODUCTS CONTAIN'WORRISOME'INGREDIENTS,CLAIMS ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING GROUP

The safety of 1,300 sun care products has been scrutinised by consumer health non-profit organisation Environmental Working Group(EWG).The majority of the sunscreens,moisturisers and lip balms analysed,at 75%,were said to not offer adequate protection and to contain"worrisome"ingredients such as oxybenzone.Separate studies,including one by the US FDA,have claimed that six commonly used chemical active ingredients,including oxybenzone,are readily absorbed through the skin and could be detected at levels that could cause harm."It's quite concerning,"said Nneka Leiba,EWG's Vice President of Healthy Living science."Those studies don't prove whether the sunscreens are unsafe,but they do highlight problems with how these products are regulated."
