I am writing this the day after the Chancellor's tenth budget. His offering did not get a very good press although the sometimes maverick Times newspaper analyst, Anatole Kaletsky, had a good word for it. He judged the budget "... a qualified, but surprising success". Kaletsky went on to claim that on current economic trends "...Britain will continue to enjoy by far the strongest public finances among the leading capitalist economies for the foreseeable future". That independent judgement put David Cameron's very noisy histrionics into better perspective.
