Five in hunt for ￡ 180m Welsh deal

Five teams of bidders are expecting to receive tender documents in the coming weeks for one of the biggest roads schemes almost certain to go ahead. A forthcoming government spending review this month could see dozens of schemes cancelled but the ￡180 million Heads of the Valleys project on the A465 in south Wales has European Union funding and is certain to go ahead. The shortlisted bidders waiting for tender documents from the Welsh Assembly's project team include two joint ventures between national contractors and local outfits with Morgan Sindall working with Alun Griffiths and Spanish firm OHL teamed up with Swansea-based Dawnus. Costain is working with a trio of consultants in Atkins, Halcrow and RPS, while Carillion is working with multi-disciplinary outfit Arup.
