THE pandemic-induced slump in the global aviation sector has opened a complex but innovative ship finance pathway that could be used to fund the record number of newbuilding containers hips ordered last year which begin hitting the water in 2023. The structure combines finance via loans from export credit agencies in China and South Korea and lease financing under a Japanese Operating Lease with Call Option (JOLCO).
