Meteor

The Meteor is a new medium range, active-radar homing air-to-air missile in the AIM-120 AMRAAM class being developed by Britain, Germany, and Sweden. The program was initiated in response to a British requirement initially called MRAAM (Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile), then called Future Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (FMRAAM), and renamed in 1997 as BVRAAM (Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile). The British objective was to satisfy the SR(A) 1239 requirement for the RAF's Euro fighter Typhoon program; Germany for its Eu-rofighter Typhoons; Sweden's requirement is a missile for the JAS 39 Gripen. Spain, and France have subsequently joined the venture.
