AGM-86 ALCM

The AGM-86B ALCM (Air-Launched Cruise Missile) is a USAF long-range air-launched strategic missile currently deployed on board B-52G/H bombers. The Boeing Co. is the prime manufacturer of the missile, and the USAF has procured a total of 1,787 AGM-86B ALCMs (72 of which were test units). Last procurement of the missile took place in FY84, RDT&E funding ended in FY91 and Class Ⅳ procurement funding ended in FY93. A previously secret conventional version, the AGM-86C Block 0 CALCM (Conventional ALCM), was employed with success during Operation Desert Storm in January 1991. After Desert Storm, the CALCM configuration was upgraded with GPS and other avionics improvements, resulting in the Block Ⅰ version. The first lot of Block Ⅰ missiles were delivered to the Air Force in July 1996. A total of 200 AGM-86C CALCM Block Ⅰ were funded through FY97 and all were delivered by the end of 1998. The Air Force had planned to rebuild the Block Ⅰ missiles with the Block IA guidance enhancements, and awarded an initial contract for 28 conversion kits in July 1998. The Block Ⅱ is the most recent version of the CALCM and introduces a hard-target penetrator to the guidance upgrades of the Block IA. In response to the shortages of missiles resulting from the Kosovo air campaign, the Air Force awarded Boeing two contracts in 1999 for 322 CALCM conversions including 140 Block Ⅰ, 132 Block IA and 50 Block Ⅱ missiles.
