The Market Overviews in this section of the binder are divided into market segments corresponding to the mission-oriented divisions in the binder (air-to-air missiles, etc.). The exception to this is smart munitions where the guided bombs will be found in the air-to-surface missile overview and the anti-armor munitions will be found in the anti-tank overview. Each market overview contains a summary forecast of the market area, as well as breakdowns by mission categories. The forecasts are provided both in units and in constant $2014. The production forecast by unit estimates annual production/delivery, not orders. The dollar forecasts should be regarded as very rough estimates, intended to show trends, and not precise unit costs. Since unit costs can vary so widely depending upon quantities, support, spares, and variants, we have adopted flat, estimated unit costs. The costs reflect the missile costs, not systems' costs. Some missile systems, such as air defense systems, involve substantial equipment such as fire control radars, launchers and support equipment, while others such as air-to-air missiles are purchased relatively self-contained. We have adopted the missile-only approach for comparative reasons between forecasts. In addition, it should be noted that there are some small discrepancies in unit cost totals, since the software used in assigning costs rounds the totals.
