AGM-176 Griffin

The Griffin Small Guided Munition was privately developed by Raytheon as a small air-to-surface missile to arm UAVs. It was first procured by SOCOM in 2008, and there is a follow on program to examine further acquisition. The US Marine Corps is also acquiring it as a weapon for its KC-130J Harvest Hawk gun-ship under the Navy's SOPGM (Stand-off Precision Guided Weapon) program. The US Army also has a light aviation requirement called Aviation Multi-Platform Munition (AMPM) which is expected to pit the Griffin, and possibly other missiles against a variety of SAL-guided rockets to arm the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior and other helicopters. Raytheon has also developed the STM (Small Tactical Munition) based on the Griffin which is unpow-ered and so light enough for use from smaller UAVs such as the RQ-7 Shadow. The Navy is considering the use of the Griffin from the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) and began deploying it on the Cyclone-class Patrol Craft in 2014. As of 5 February 2014, 2,000 missiles had been delivered.
