Conventional Prompt Global Strike is a US surface-to-surface weapon system intended to bridge the gap between US strategic nuclear weapons and conventional deep-strike weapons. It is intended to offer the global reach of ICBMs or SLBMs, but with a distinctive re-entry vehicle to prevent the misidentifi-cation of a launch of such a weapon as a nuclear strike by Russian or Chinese early warning radars. In contrast to existing conventional strike weapons such as the Tomahawk cruise missile, the weapon is intended to be able to reach intercontinental ranges in under an hour.
